From September 17 to 20, San Pietro di Sorres, in Borutta, hosts the 14th edition of the Bastida di Sorres, a historical reenactment of the Storming of the Fortress organized by the Bastida di Sorres Association. Four days of celebration featuring battles, medieval encampments, knights, falconers, jesters, and gastronomic tours, a program enriched by the exhibition "The Middle Ages in Garments – Trame di storia e regine di Sardegna all'ombra di San Pietro di Sorres." The project, created by Lucia Laconi with musical accompaniment by the Ensemble Vox Modulata group, recounts the lives of Elena di Gallura, Benedetta di Massa, and Adelasia through the reconstruction of their costumes. Elena di Gallura, known as "the child bride," is evoked by a dress that recounts her marriage to Lamberto Visconti and the motherhood of Ubaldo, a symbol of purity called to resist the greed of the world. "Every fabric you touch, every veil, and every single seam is an act of love and redemption. They are the tears and the dignity of our ancient mothers," is the message conveyed by Lucia Laconi. At the heart of the event is the reenactment of the Storming of the Fortress, with the Doria and Aragonese facing off before the public. The great battle is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, at 7:00 PM and Sunday, September 20th, at 12:00 PM, on the battlefield in front of the Cathedral of San Pietro di Sorres. On Saturday the 19th, at 5:00 PM, there will be a Medieval Quintana with horses and knights. Demonstrations of medieval weapon forging will be held in the churchyard on Saturday the 19th at 10:45 AM and Sunday the 20th at 10:00 AM. New features this year include an archaeological trek to the Domus de Janas of San Pietro di Sorres and circus arts workshops, including aerial acrobatics and textile specialties for adults and children. The program also includes a visit to the Cathedral of San Pietro di Sorres, the archaeological museum, and the monastic library, as well as an exhibition dedicated to medieval torture. The days conclude with a visit to the monastery garden, where Vietnamese monks will prepare traditional menus to pair with abbey beers.
