A 78-year-old man is in hospital in serious condition, with various fractures and a suspected head injury, after being hit by a car passing in Via Maria Carta, in the town center of Bari Sardo.

The episode happened just before 1pm today.

Lanusei traffic police officers are investigating the accident.

Also on site were colleagues from the Tortolì police station and the 118 staff who transported the elderly pedestrian to the Nostra Signora della Mercede hospital in Lanusei.
