A dolphin died on the shoreline shortly after giving birth to a calf. Several swimmers witnessed the dramatic outcome this morning on Bucca 'e Strumpu beach, on the Bari Sardo coast.

Yesterday evening, the 200-kilogram specimen had been spotted by several people attempting to approach the shore. In the early hours of today, swimmers spotted the dolphin on the seabed and, using a rope, brought it to the shore. The mammal nevertheless managed to give birth, and other dolphins picked up the calf and carried it out to sea.

Forestry officers from Tortolì, the local police from Bari Sardo, and municipal workers responded to the scene and, using a wheeled vehicle equipped with a bucket, removed the carcass from the beach.
