An attack occurred in the Bancali prison . The FNS CISL union reported the attack, reporting that "the situation has now become explosive" in the Sassari and Uta prisons.
"In the last few hours," the statement reads, "a prison police officer was attacked by an inmate, who kicked and punched him in an attempt to steal the keys to the prison section. Despite the violence, the officer managed to stop the criminal act."
The officer was then taken by ambulance to the emergency room at the Santissima Annunziata hospital. "We strongly urge the Administration," stated Giovanni Villa, regional secretary general of the Fns Cisl union, "to review the current methods of assigning prisoners, which have long fueled unsustainable overcrowding in Sardinian prisons , especially in the larger ones, where it seems they are now even using a fourth bunk bed."
For Villa, these are "decisions that are both irresponsible and damaging and are seriously jeopardizing the entire prison system: from Directors to Commanders, down to the lowest officer who, working daily in trench-like conditions, is often the first to suffer the consequences of this management. It is a shameful and humiliating situation," he concludes, "that can no longer be ignored."
