Two and a half years after Marco Raduano's escape from Badu 'e Carros prison, a military garrison is still active . This situation raises questions about the effectiveness of the measures adopted thus far. "If, two and a half years after Marco Raduano's attack on the integrity of the Nuoro prison, a military garrison is still necessary outside Badu e' Carros, it is natural to ask what initiatives the Ministry of Justice has implemented to guarantee the Penitentiary Police's complete autonomy in managing the Nuoro prison." This was stated in a statement by Maria Grazia Caligaris , president of the association Socialismo Diritti Riforme, noting that the "flaws" of the prison, known for being a maximum security prison, even with inmates under the 41bis regime, do not appear to have been remedied.
"The initiative taken in 2024 by the then prefect of Nuoro, Dionisi, and regional superintendent Galati," Caligaris continues, "made sense in addressing the various issues that emerged during several inspections of the prison, with a view to developing a project tailored to the needs of prison staff. Today, however, learning that the ongoing safeguarding measures are in place seems like a mockery."
"Even more so after the words of Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, who, to reassure the regional president and several parliamentarians about the presence of 41-bis prisoners in UTA, provided extensive security guarantees, perhaps forgetting that unfortunately, in Nuoro, he is forced to call in the army." For the president of SDR, "the presence of the army to guard the Macomer CPR is even more serious, as there are no criminals there, only migrants living in unacceptable conditions of detention."
