Bachisio Falconi, former regional councilor of Sardinia, former mayor of Fonni, entrepreneur and historic figure in the island's tourism sector, died suddenly in Barcelona.
He was 75 years old and died of a heart attack while in the Catalan city. The news sparked deep mourning in Fonni and throughout Sardinia. Falconi was the father of Fonni's mayor, Daniela Falconi. A visionary entrepreneur and long-time administrator, Bachisio Falconi linked his name to the tourism development of Barbagia and northern Sardinia .
The longtime owner of the Taloro Hotel on the shores of Lake Gusana, he was among the founders of the Fattorie Gennargentu project, contributing to the development of the area through a tourism model rooted in tradition and the environment. During his entrepreneurial career, he also owned a holiday village in Budoni, later sold to Ventaclub. He invested in the Casteldoria spa, and, more recently, was pursuing a new tourism project with a resort in the Badesi area.
Born in Fonni on January 17, 1951, after graduating as a chemical engineer from the Industrial Institute of Cagliari, he began studying biology, which he interrupted to dedicate himself to the hotel business. At the same time, he gained extensive political and administrative experience. A leader of the PDS (Democratic Party of Socialist Party), a member of the Regional Committee and the National Tourism Council, he served as a city councilor in Fonni for nineteen consecutive years and as mayor of the town until 1993 , leading a center-left government. In 1991, he escaped a gunshot ambush . Before joining the Regional Council, he had also served as president of the Taloro Mountain River Consortium.
Elected regional councilor for the Nuoro constituency with the Democrats of the Left group, he held various institutional roles: he was secretary of the Third Commission, a member of the Sixth Commission, secretary of the Second Commission in the Floris administration, and secretary of the Commission of Inquiry into EMSA, distinguishing himself in particular for his work on issues of trade, economic development, and tourism. Numerous messages of condolences have been sent to his family. The parishes of San Giovanni Battista and Santa Maria dei Martiri in Fonni expressed their condolences with a statement: "As the Christian community of Fonni, we express our sympathy and solidarity to our mayor Daniela Falconi and her entire family on the sudden loss of their father Bachisio. We continue to assure them of our prayers in this time of trial and grief." His passing leaves a void in the Fonni community and in the world of Sardinian tourism, a sector in which he was a key player for decades, combining his political commitment with constant efforts to promote and enhance the region.
