A small bronze crucifix was stolen from the church of San Giorgio in Atzara during the Autunno in Barbagia event. 40 centimeters large, it was hoisted on the central altar of the church.

Dismay and disbelief among the town's faithful, the parish priest Don Stefano Demontis launched an appeal: «The person who 'borrowed' the crucifix - his words - has the time and opportunity to understand that everything can be remedied. I am available to accept, in appropriate confidentiality, the repentance of anyone who wishes to contact me to provide a quick solution to the episode ."

The historical and economic value of the object is irrelevant, continues the parish priest, "but it has a religious and emotional value for the entire population".

Mayor Alessandro Corona also intervened on the matter: «If the parish priest's appeal is not accepted we will have to proceed with a complaint to the police . Don Stefano's words give ample margin for rethinking and repentance."

Again: «We have offered all visitors important experiences, hospitality, kindness and courtesy, our community deserves respect».
