Limited access. The natural pools of Ussassai, like Cala Goloritzé and the other gems of the Baunei and Su Sirboni (Gairo) coasts. This will be the future of the lakes to which Mayor Chicco Usai banned access with an ordinance issued on July 27th. "This year we're keeping the number of people restricted, but in the future we plan to reopen with limited access." The mayor's principles are crystallized: Usai is not backing down, maintaining that environmental protection is the first commandment to be respected. Even more so now that the pool area, crowded with hikers (mostly foreigners), is also patrolled by Forestry personnel, as announced by Regional Environment Councilor Rosanna Laconi during a telephone conversation with the mayor during the heated debate following the closure order.

Towards change

The current season will continue like this, without swimmers or aqua-trekkers. The natural lakes of the Rio Sa Taula, between S'Arcada and the junction with the Rio San Gerolamo, the Rio Isara and Rio San Gerolamo, up to the Caddargiu de Sini pool, will remain closed and, above all, monitored. "In September," the mayor announced, "we will launch a study on human pressure to demonstrate that limited access and a limited number of people are essential to protecting the sites' biodiversity." Once the planning is complete, a turning point is expected: "Our intention," Usai stated, "is to publish a tender to assign the sites to a company that will care for and manage them for tourism and environmental purposes."
