The masks of the Sardinian carnival were the great protagonists of the final evening of a preview of "Chenamos in carrela" full of charm and traditions. Providing a show along the streets of Villanova Monteleone are the Mamutzones of Samugheo, S'Urtzu and sos Bardianos of Ula Tirso and the Boes and Merdules of Ottana, carefully accompanied by the presentation of Lucia Cossu.

The groups first showed the stages of dressing in the gardens dedicated to Veronica Fadda. After having charred (safely) with fire some pieces of cork to obtain "su tintieddu", they painted the face, hands and arms black. Giving a touch of color on the face even to entertained kids. The groups then paraded through the streets of the town, producing curiosity and amazement through their cadences, the sounds of the cowbells and their ancestral rites.

«It shouldn't seem strange to see these ancient rites and these masks in this area and in a period other than winter – explained the presenter Cossu – because it is also a way to make our traditions known. Bringing these groups to a country that does not experience these masks was very popular and the feedback was absolutely positive."

Another great protagonist was the gastronomic menu and in particular a tasty spit-roasted veal, served together with traditional gnocchi and aubergines. There was no shortage of gems and artisanal products from the Villanova economy such as carpets, presented in a special weaving laboratory in the Isola spaces, where the curious were able to try their hand at using the hand loom under the guidance of experts. In addition to the "Exhibition of handcrafted carpets", the "Exhibition of ancient musical instruments" was also highly appreciated.

The next appointment of "Chenamos in carrela" will take place between 7 and 9 August with the final events of the event which will find the highlight in the large outdoor dinner along the streets of Villanova. The initiative is included in the broad activity of the "Chenamos in carrela" project envisaged by the action line "Implementation of initiatives for the protection and enhancement of the heritage of intangible culture - Alboergo Project - Widespread hospitality in Villanova Monteleone", promoted by the Municipality of Villanova and financed with PNRR funds. All events connected to the event are included in the Salude&Trigu program of the Sassari Chamber of Commerce.
