They pretended to be disabled or visually impaired to gain the pity of passersby and get them to hand over money that, they claimed, was intended for a non-existent non-profit organization.
A trap fell into by several people at the "Le Vele" shopping center in Quartucciu. One resident, in particular, who had fallen victim to the scam, realized the deception and raised the alarm with the Carabinieri Operations Center in Quartu Sant'Elena.
The officers, who arrived on the scene, immediately arrested the perpetrators, two women aged 30 and 27, both originally from the peninsula and already known to law enforcement. They were in possession of several signature collection forms on which donations totaling several hundred euros had been recorded. Both were charged.
