Following several incidents in the town (thefts and assaults), the mayor of Calangianus, Fabio Albieri, has denounced the situation at the initial reception center for unaccompanied foreign minors. Formal reports have been sent by the municipal administration to the Prefecture of Sassari.

In its memos, the Municipality of Calangianus highlighted extremely serious incidents that "undermine public peace and the safety of its citizens." The memos describe "a situation exacerbated by the fact that minors continue to roam freely at night without effective controls or respect for rules or timetables, increasing the sense of insecurity and exposing the residents themselves to the risk of tension and reactions from an exhausted population." Albieri states: "The community of Calangianus and this municipal administration have always been open, welcoming, and deeply inclusive. Our history demonstrates this: since 2018, the Municipality has implemented a SPRAR (now SAI) project for unaccompanied minors, which is working very well. The children enrolled in this program have integrated perfectly into our social fabric; they study, work, and continue to give us tremendous satisfaction. This shows that we are not at all opposed to welcoming minors, but we demand that it be done with respect for the rules, safety, and dignity of all."

Albieri continues: "The situation that has developed at the initial reception center for unaccompanied foreign minors is completely out of control and no longer tolerable. We cannot allow the lack of intervention by the relevant authorities to jeopardize the safety of our community and ultimately compromise the positive integration experiences that we have been working so hard and proudly promoting for years." The Municipality of Calangianus is requesting the closure of the center and the simultaneous transfer of its guests to other suitable facilities.
