After spending 10 days without a roof over his head, the 52-year-old Massimo Tronci from Assemini found accommodation in Decimomannu .

Between Friday and Saturday he spent his last night on the bench in front of the municipal building of Assemini. A rain on several occasions accompanied his last hours of sleep spent on the hot metal.

Good news has arrived for him: he has found accommodation in nearby Decimomannu, where he has moved. Meanwhile he is unemployed, desperately looking for a job and survives on 350 euros from the "training-work" allowance .

The homeless experience began three weeks ago: "The municipal social workers invited me to sleep on the benches." Alternatively? Moving out of Sardinia: «I refused to accept this solution because I am followed by a specialist». He suffers from two pathologies, one in his lungs and one in his legs which cause cramps and waking up at night . His precarious health conditions limit him in his daily activities.

Telling how he arrived in these conditions is a hard pill to swallow for him: «After my university studies in construction engineering, which were not completed due to a family argument, I have always worked. I moved to Brussels, learned French and opened, after many years as an ice cream maker, a pizzeria. But Covid took everything away from me : my job, my mother and my health already compromised by my previous activity. I returned to Sardinia in a wheelchair and after years of vicissitudes my father kicked me out of the house, leaving me on the street."

Finally a solution has arrived, albeit temporary: «I am grateful - he always says with a smile - because I lived an experience that will mark my existence. Even though they were exhausting days, they will leave me with a great lesson. Assemini has no fountains and public toilets so I was forced to go to the Decimomannu station equipped with toilets. Sleeping on the street is terrible, you feel defenseless and dealing with the high temperatures is exhausting."
