A sensational breakthrough in the case of the shipwreck that occurred three years ago in the Gulf of Asinara . Prosecutor Armando Mammone, as reported by Ansa, has requested the indictment of Giovannino Pinna, 38, accused of the voluntary homicide of his cousin Davide Calvia .
It wasn't a shipwreck but a crime, according to the Prosecutor's Office: Pinna, according to the theory, fatally shot Calvia on April 12, 2023, then threw her body into the sea to simulate drowning. Then, to stage the shipwreck, he allegedly sank the boat the two cousins were aboard, which had been stolen shortly beforehand from the port of Porto Torres.
Calvia's death immediately seemed a mystery; her sister Nadia never believed the shipwreck theory. Pinna was found 24 hours after the boat sank, half-frozen on a small beach in Marina di Sorso . He remained in the hospital for several days and gave his version of events: the boat had sunk and they had jumped into the sea. He had called the Coast Guard and tried to help his cousin but had seen him disappear beneath the waves . Davide's body was found 10 days later.
But subsequent investigations immediately cast serious doubt on this version: the coroner's report immediately highlighted that Calvia did not die from drowning, but from trauma to the head and chest . According to the prosecution's reconstruction, the tests on the vessel also revealed that Pinna had intentionally caused the water to enter .
The preliminary hearing judge of the Sassari Court, Sergio De Luca, has set May 27th as the date for the preliminary hearing. The hearing will decide whether Giovannino Pinna should stand trial on the very serious charge of murder.
