Clash in the Assize Court in Sassari over the mental condition of Michele Fresi, the 28-year-old from Arzachena on trial for the murder of his father Giovanni, a 58-year-old goldsmith who was fatally hit with a baseball bat to the head on the night of 27 December 2023 .

Today, the defense's technical consultant, Dr. Luca Pisano, testified in great detail. He stated that the blood and urine tests were done for opiates, cocaine and amphetamines. He also explained that LSD is not an amphetamine and that a different analysis must be done to detect it.

According to the statement of the consultant psychologist appointed by the defense (lawyer Pierfranco Tirotto) to evaluate the state of the defendant, the 28-year-old must undergo a psychiatric evaluation to ascertain his capacity to understand and will at the time of the murder .

The defense pushes for Fresi's mental infirmity , due to the abuse of narcotics: the 28-year-old, heard by the judges in court, admitted to excessive use of drugs, especially LSD, a substance he was also under the effects of on the night of the crime . "He was stoned, he had taken seven tabs of acid," said Fresi's friend about that night, in which she was also injured, victim of the 28-year-old's uncontrolled fury.

Psychiatrist Veronica Dessì, a civil party consultant, has already presented her report in the previous hearings of the proceedings, and maintains that Fresi does not have any psychiatric illness .

At the next hearing, on March 25 , the judges will decide whether or not to accept the defense's request for a psychiatric assessment. On the same day, Fresi's mother, with whom the 28-year-old has always had a conflictual relationship, is called to testify in court .
