Antonio Martinez, the man accused of firing gunshots during an argument with a Moroccan man, which occurred this summer in Cannigione (Arzachena), has chosen the abbreviated trial.

Today, Martinez's defense attorney, criminal lawyer Jacopo Merlini, requested an alternative trial. The Tempio Prosecutor's Office had closed its investigation with a request for an immediate trial.

The charges against Martinez, a native of Tempio, are serious. The prosecutor accuses him of assault with the aggravating circumstance of racial hatred.

According to the prosecution, Martinez allegedly injured the young Moroccan man after a xenophobic attack, a version of events that the defense rejects.

The man has already written to the victim, apologizing for what happened and has also paid a sum as partial compensation for the damage caused.

Today, attorney Merlini obtained the revocation of his pre-trial detention order, replacing it with house arrest.

Martinez, interviewed by the investigating judge immediately after his arrest, explained that he acted to defend his son, denying that he had intentionally fired at the victim. According to the man, the shots were fired during a physical confrontation.
