Unions are on the warpath following the recent attacks on the post office in Ogliastra . "Just a few days later, the issue of the safety of Poste Italiane workers inside post offices has resurfaced," emphasized Tonino Ortega, general secretary of the UILFPC Sardegna, and Davide Sannia, deputy general secretary. "Two post offices in Gairo and Elini, small towns on our island, were targeted. These are where management is increasingly entrusted to 'single operators' who must deal with the entire office management alone on a daily basis, dealing with all the problems that can arise, sometimes at their own risk." "In the Nuoro area," the union continues, "there are currently 83 post offices, 40 of which are single-operator. By the end of the year, the number of offices with a single operator will rise to 56 because some locations are being downgraded."

"It should implement concrete solutions to safeguard, above all, the health and safety of those who provide daily services to the population, even in small towns like those mentioned," the unions continued, addressing Poste Italiane. " Operators cannot be left to work alone ."

"We ask Poste Italiane," he concluded, "to discuss the merits of this increasingly serious and pressing situation. Safety is essential. Every worker must be confident in going to their workplace."
