He approached her under the pretense of selling her some socks and left with an elderly woman's pension in his pocket. The incident occurred two days ago in front of the Arborea post office and was immediately reported to the Carabinieri, who have already launched an investigation to try to locate the young man.
"He approached my mother, who was with my daughter, trying to sell her some socks, and he was very insistent," says Desirée Vagnozzi, president of the Terralbese Rotary club.
"At my mother's first refusal, the young man didn't give up and also turned to my daughter, who became annoyed and scared," she adds. "At that point, my mother, to try to make him desist, opened her purse to give him 10 euros, but he took advantage of the situation by putting several pairs of socks inside and managing to open the inside pocket where there were approximately 1,500 euros."
Then the young man walked away, only when she arrived home did the woman realize she had been robbed and at that point she immediately turned to the police.
"We're not used to things like this," Desirée Vagnozzi continues. "Arborea is a quiet town." The young man is well-known in the village, but nothing like this has ever happened before. "Although it seems this boy often approaches children under the pretext of exchanging socks for purses or fanny packs," she adds. "What's most disconcerting is that someone would target the most vulnerable people, like the elderly or children."
