Officers from the Marrubiu Forestry Station discovered and seized a private area of approximately 5,000 square meters in the Arborea countryside, used for the uncontrolled storage and unauthorized disposal of hazardous waste.
The inspection was ordered by the Oristano Public Prosecutor's Office with the participation of technicians from the Oristano and Cagliari Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPAS). The investigation focused on a farm in the Arborea plain where the owner, a construction company owner, had set up an area for the storage and illegal disposal of materials from construction sites.
During the investigation, various types of waste were found, including inert materials and building debris, ferrous and plastic waste, pipes, disused appliances, asbestos corrugated iron, used batteries, gas cylinders, and various discarded containers.
It was also discovered that some of the materials were periodically incinerated in special concrete structures, resulting in the emission of fumes and emissions potentially harmful to the environment and public health. The owner, a seventy-year-old local resident, was reported for violating regulations on illegal waste management and disposal.
