The engine of their sailboat had broken down. The 22-meter vessel was six miles east of the port of Arbatax.
The three-person crew on board sent a distress call, which was received by the Coast Guard operations room in Arbatax. Specifically, the crew reported engine failure and were currently sailing with only one sail, given the strong, gusty winds, aggravated by the nighttime sailing and poor visibility.
The Circomare personnel, under the command of Lieutenant Mattia Caniglia, ordered the intervention of the CP 811 patrol boat in the area under the coordination of the 13th MRSC of Cagliari.
The patrol boat located and reached the vessel in distress four miles east of the port of Arbatax, providing assistance for its safe return to port. The vessel was safely moored within the port, with the crew in good health.
