She turned 101 on Sunday. Assunta Fanni celebrated her birthday at her home in Arbatax, joined by her loved ones, where she cut a cake specially prepared for the occasion. Born in Tortolì, she moved to Arbatax at the age of 28 with her husband, Giovanni Balzano, who arrived in Ogliastra from Ponza with his merchant uncles when she was 12. He passed away in 1966.

Together they had nine children, seven of whom are living (Silverio, Andrea, Elisa, Franco, Margherita, Lucio, and Geppino). A woman of faith, a housewife, Grandma Assunta is devoted to Our Lady of Stella Maris.
