With political and institutional authorities concentrated in Rome or who have chosen other locations to celebrate Republic Day, the anniversary of 2 June , the date of Giuseppe Garibaldi's death, in other times a time of great participation and events, was on a lower scale than Caprera , where the hero, father of the country, organized its unification and from which he left several times to achieve it and where he died on June 2, 1882.
Wreaths and bouquets of flowers were placed in front of the tombstone of those fallen in war, the bust of Giovan Battista Culiolo, known as Major Leggero, friend of Garibaldi, and that of Anita, his South American bride who died during the escape from the Roman Republic (which is not buried in Caprera), to the plaque of a Garibaldian of the Thousand, Angelo Tarantini, and naturally, on his tomb, the granite sarcophagus, in the Caprera shrine.
Once the wreaths were laid in front of the granite sarcophagus, the celebratory intervention, under the Clelia pine, was by Franco Tamassia, of the Giuseppe Garibaldi International Institute of Studies.
The day before, June 1st, in the Garibaldi Compendium there had been the presentation of Gordon Pincott's book "Towards Caprera, on the trail of Garibaldi" published by Paolo Sorba, with the author present, with the report by Christian Rossi, from the University of Cagliari, speeches by the publisher Sorba, by Giuseppe Garibaldi, honorary curator of the Garibaldi Compendium, by Franco Tamassia, introduced by Gianluca Moro, coordinator of the Garibaldi Museums.
