Since 2020, the Municipality of Alghero has not received reimbursements from the Region for the expenses of the "animal welfare" chapter . This was announced by the Councilor for the Environment Andrea Montis , who is having difficulty carrying forward the many projects for stray dogs and cats.
«We know that there has been a review of the attribution rules, we also know that there have been some meetings between the veterinary managers of the Sardinian Local Health Authorities, who are entrusted with the task of verifying the reports received from the Municipalities, and that Alghero has always transmitted in time, but there is no more news of the allocation of the contribution , of which three years are missing and the fourth is maturing », explains the member of the center-right council, recalling that these are fundamental resources.
The municipal kennel alone costs 30,000 euros a month. Then there are the microchipping and sterilization services. Alghero has already received numerous awards at national level for being an "animal-friendly" city, the latest being the "Animals in the city 2021" award. The results of the tenth national report by Legambiente place the Riviera del Corallo at the top of the 656 municipalities evaluated.
"However, it is evident that all this is not possible with only the strong commitment of the municipal personnel who work in the Environment Service, or of the barrage company, there are costs to be incurred which, no matter how much we try to contain them, in any case they must find adequate coverage". the conclusion.
