The Pelagos Sanctuary is the only international cross-border area dedicated to the protection of marine mammals in the Mediterranean Sea. It was created with an agreement signed by France, Italy and the Principality of Monaco, which entered into force in 2002. It is an area characterized by an extraordinary biodiversity, in which eight species of cetaceans are regularly observed and in which rarely also the monk seal.

On June 22, the Sala Sassu of the Sassari Conservatory will host the II International Meeting of the Pelagos Partnership Charter from 9 in the morning. The national authorities and the representatives of the 136 Italian and French municipalities who have promoted training, awareness, communication and first aid activities in the event of stranding of cetaceans on their territory will take part.

During the meeting , the virtuous initiatives promoted by the Municipalities will be presented and the proposals for modification of the Partnership Charter will be discussed . Two roundtables are also envisaged aimed at strengthening the cross-border dialogue of Municipalities and at defining the role of Marine Protected Areas and National Parks in supporting the implementation activities of the Partnership Charter.

At the end of the day, there will be a concert during which the vocalizations of marine mammals, extraordinary inhabitants of the Cetacean Sanctuary, will be reproduced.
