The emergency medical transport of a little girl in imminent danger of death and in need of transfer from Alghero to the "Gaslini" hospital concluded last night with the landing in Genoa.
The flight, as required by procedures for this type of activity, was authorized by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which manages and coordinates the activities of the state aircraft fleet. The activation occurred at the request of the Prefecture of Sassari to the Situation Room of the Air Force's Milan Air Squadron Command, which immediately involved the 31st Wing at Ciampino, one of the units that provides operational readiness for this type of mission.
After completing all necessary procedures by the military crew and loading the newborn from the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, along with her mother and a medical team, the G650 took off from Alghero Airport late yesterday evening. After landing at Genoa Airport shortly after midnight, an ambulance transported the newborn to the Ligurian hospital for admission.
This type of community service, the Air Force states, "is one of the Air Force's institutional duties. The flight units are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams, or ambulances. Every year, hundreds of flight hours are performed for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing at Ciampino, the 14th Wing at Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade at Pisa, and the helicopters of the 15th Wing at Cervia."
