Two and a half million cubic meters of water have been discharged into the sea every day since the severe weather hit Sulcis. The Monte Pranu reservoir, the main water reserve in southwestern Sardinia, is at capacity, yet Sulcis farmers are uneasy and are issuing an appeal: " Every year it's the same story: in the winter, people talk about a water crisis averted, but then at the end of summer, restrictions arise because they can't find a way to conserve this important resource ."
The drama in the fields continues: damage from severe weather in the winter and drought in the hot season. "These days, we're dumping millions of cubic meters of water into the sea," says Michele Virdis, a farmer and councilor responsible for agriculture in Sant'Anna Arresi. Yesterday, rains continued to fill the two reservoirs in the area: Bau Pressiu, in the municipality of Nuxis, and Monte Pranu in Tratalias.
