An elderly and sickly 80-year-old man was arrested in recent days and transferred to the Alghero prison to execute a final sentence. According to the documents, the pensioner, an Italian citizen of Slavic origin, lives in Selargius and is serving a one-year and eight-month prison sentence.
The charges are a cumulative series of misdemeanors, therefore minor offenses. The offenses occurred over time, and after the trials, the convictions were handed down, which have now been enforced. The elderly man has appointed a lawyer to verify the grounds for the order that landed him in jail and the compatibility of detention with his mental and physical condition.
The lawyer, criminal lawyer Abele Cherchi, declared: "I cannot make any comment because I have begun to review the documents and study the case. My client is a sick person and now we will verify every aspect of this matter."
