Around 25,000 tourists and sailing enthusiasts are expected in Cagliari from May 21st to 24th for the preliminary regatta of the 38th Louis Vuitton America's Cup, held May 21st to 24th.
To facilitate travel by public transport , CTM, the local public transport company, will provide three electric shuttles and night services, with frequencies varying between 15 and 30 minutes (60 at night) that will allow you to reach the observation areas of the race course and move to and from eight interchange car parks where special stops have been positioned.
The initiative is supported by the Region as part of the public service contract with CTM, with additional funding for approximately 2,500 kilometers: this is how many kilometers will be covered by the vehicles designated for the special service. Leaflets have been produced for the occasion with complete information on routes, stops, timetables, and frequencies.
On buses, passengers will be able to pay with a POS terminal, directly to the driver and at no additional cost, a service that CTM plans to extend this summer to routes to the beaches. Tickets can also be purchased on the Busfinder and AroundSardinia apps, as well as at authorized retailers.
Specifically, the America's Cup shuttle, with 18-meter Solaris Urbino electric buses and a capacity of 140 passengers, will provide a direct connection between the Su Siccu marina, Via Roma (where the Race Village is located), the Fan Zone at Lazzaretto, and the eight parking lots: Piazzale Trento, Via Battisti, Piazza Matteotti, Viale Colombo/Molo Ichnusa, Piazzale dei Centomila, the Cuore parking lot at Sant'Elia, the Sant'Elia stadium, and Marina Piccola. Intermediate stops are planned along the seafront until reaching the Su Siccu terminus.
Additionally, line 11 from Piazza Amsicora to Sant'Elia, Marina Piccola, and Calamosca will be upgraded and extended. An 8.3-meter bus with a capacity of 45 passengers will operate.
Night service will run from Piazza Matteotti through Is Mirrionis, Poetto, Saline, Lungo Saline, San Bartolomeo, and Su Siccu until 3 a.m. on May 21st, 22nd, and 24th. On Saturday, May 23rd, night service buses (12-meter long, 85-passenger capacity) will operate (lines 1N, ER, 9N, and L). Buses will run every 60 minutes.
Additionally, three CTM information points with reception staff will be open in Piazza Matteotti, Viale Colombio, and the Lazzaretto parking lot.
The innovation was presented in Cagliari by CTM President Fabrizio Rodin, Regional Transport Councillor Barbara Manca, Marzia Cilloccu, representing Regional Tourism Councillor Franco Cuccureddu, Giuseppe Macciotta, City Councillor for Sport, and Omar Zaher, Delegate for Mobility for the Metropolitan City of Cagliari.
"We encourage you to use public transport, which will run at a very high frequency," Rodin urged, "so you can simply leave your car in the park-and-ride areas and then easily reach the observation points using CTM transport."
