A farmer was arrested after being found in possession of illegal weapons . Intensive prevention and surveillance efforts by the Mogoro Carabinieri led to the arrest of a 42-year-old resident of a village in the Marmilla area. The investigation stemmed from patrols in the area, which in the previous months had led to the identification and seizure of a first hunting rifle with its serial number removed, hidden among the vegetation in the countryside.
The breakthrough in the investigation came thanks to the Scientific Investigations Department (RIS) of Cagliari : sophisticated ballistic and fingerprint analyses allowed them to restore the original serial number of the weapon (which had been stolen in the Sassari area several years ago) and to highlight the suspect's fingerprints.
Based on the serious circumstantial evidence gathered by the Mogoro police, and under the direction of the Oristano Public Prosecutor's Office, the raid was launched yesterday morning. The company, together with the " Cacciatori di Sardegna " Carabinieri helicopter squadron from Abbasanta and the canine units, conducted targeted searches at the suspect's home and farm. The operation resulted in the recovery of an additional weapon with an obliterated serial number, a rifle, and numerous rounds of ammunition, destined for subsequent investigation by the RIS. The man was arrested and taken to the Oristano prison. He is charged with possession of illegal weapons, receiving stolen goods, and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
