All professors, grant holders, and university researchers were acquitted. Judge Marta Guadalupi delivered the verdict today in Sassari against the eleven defendants, each accused of various charges of false ideology, interference with the freedom of auctions, bid rigging, and interference with the freedom of the contractor selection process .
The trial, which reached the capital of Sassari as a result of a national investigation initiated by the Florence prosecutor's office, with investigations overseen by the Guardia di Finanza, dates back to 2016-2019. The case alleged rigged tenders and distributed teaching positions at universities. According to the underlying charges, this corruption scheme also reached Sassari, where eleven people were indicted and will be tried in 2022.
As requested during the hearing by prosecutor Giovanni Porcheddu, the judge ordered, as written, the acquittal because the fact does not exist for Professor Francesco Pepe, for the full professor of tax law, Valerio Ficari, for Fabrizio Amatucci, full professor of tax law, the former dean of the Department of Economics, Luca Marinò, Franco Paparella, also a professor of tax law, for Guglielmo Fransoni, full professor of tax law, for the researchers at the time Paolo Barabino and Luca Cattani, for Professor Carlo Massimo Ibba, full professor of commercial law, and for the professors Alessio Scano and Giuseppe Scanu. The lawyers are Agostinangelo Marras for Ficari, Anna Laura Vargiu for Pepe and Barabino, Giuseppe Conti and Luigi Lanucara for Paparella, Mariano Mameli for Marinò, Marcello D'Ascia and Gabriele Satta for Amatucci, Sebastiano Chironi and Roberto Scano for Alessio Scano, Stefano Porcu for Giuseppe Scanu, Luigi Satta for Fransoni, Marco Costa and Luigi Satta for Cattani.
