It's been brewing for weeks, and now the case of Councilor Raffaella Sanna has reignited the political conflict in Alghero over the Cacciotto cabinet reshuffle. Center-right group leaders have harshly attacked the Democratic Party after the letter sent to the mayor requesting the replacement of the Culture Councilor with Gabriella Esposito.

"The Democratic Party is democratic only in name. The letter to dismiss Raffaella Sanna represents a very ugly chapter in the city's politics," declared Michele Pais (Lega), Marco Tedde (Forza Italia), Alessandro Cocco (FdI), Lelle Salvatore (UDC), Massimiliano Fadda (Prima Alghero), and Giovanna Caria (Reformists). According to the opposition, the decision was communicated to the mayor without even informing the person concerned. "We're talking about purges via WhatsApp, with people reduced to pawns in the party balance."

The center-right also cites the councilor's previous complaints, in which she reported to the mayor and the secretary general what she described as violent behavior by a member of the council, a matter later clarified as normal dialectics. "Were those behaviors perhaps part of a plan to force her to resign and free up her seat on the council?" the councilors ask. For the opposition, the incident is a sign of a majority focused on internal divisions, with the risk of further replacements dictated by party balance rather than administrative results. "The councilors' positions are not the private property of political parties nor are they instruments of political vengeance. We hope the mayor will demonstrate a surge of autonomy and authority, defending his council and evaluating Sanna for his work, rather than bowing to the logic of purges," the statement concludes.
