Unpaid taxes: frozen accounts and seizures of defaulters in Alghero
City Councilor Pais presents a question: "This doesn't fight tax evasion, but rather affects the elderly and families in difficulty."Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
For days, many citizens of Alghero have been receiving notices of seizure of their bank accounts following a barrage of local tax assessments, which began on July 31st.
A decision described as "incomprehensible" by Lega councilor Michele Pais . "Attacking families, the elderly, and those in financial difficulty right on the eve of Ferragosto, when banking activities are limited and reaction times are almost nonexistent, is extremely serious. Many find themselves with their accounts frozen, including their pensions or their few food savings," Pais denounces, explaining that the documents were issued by Secal Spa as the collection agent, "without direct responsibility on the part of the company's management or structure."
The problem, Pais emphasizes, is "the lack of direction and coordination on the part of the municipal administration," which should modulate collection and activate compliance tools to allow citizens to fulfill their obligations.
"We're not talking about tax evaders," Pais adds, "but people experiencing economic hardship. The state itself promotes dialogue and amicable resolution, while the municipality seems to be positioning itself as an enemy of the very citizens it's supposed to serve."
To clarify the matter, Pais announces the presentation of an urgent question in the Council.
