Forged passports and false personal details were used to attempt to bypass security and board flights to Ireland. The attempt was discovered by Border Police at Alghero Airport, who recently arrested two people, one Albanian and one Iraqi, red-handed. The arrests were triggered by checks carried out by officers using Border Police technical equipment, which confirmed the documents were forged. The two were arrested for possession of false documents. These are not isolated cases. In May, two other Georgian nationals were arrested in separate incidents while attempting to leave Italy on flights departing from Alghero. According to the Sassari Police Headquarters, the phenomenon is increasing compared to previous years and is currently being investigated.
