Six kilos of sand, pebbles, and shells collected as souvenirs from the beaches of Sardinia.
This is what was found in the luggage of a Hungarian tourist , stranded at Alghero airport while boarding a flight to Budapest.
Customs Agency officials serving at the "Riviera del Corallo" port, along with the Guardia di Finanza (Italian Finance Police ), detained the woman after security checks, which had just revealed the presence of sand, shells, pebbles, and sea stones in her luggage. Further investigation revealed that the artifacts had been illegally removed from the beaches along the coastal stretch between Alghero and Badesi.
The passenger was therefore charged with violating Regional Law No. 16 of July 28, 2017, which prohibits the collection, possession, and sale of sand, pebbles, and shells without authorization. She now faces a fine of up to €3,000.
The finds have been seized and, in collaboration with local authorities, will be returned to their respective beaches of origin in the coming days.
