The statue of Sant Crist de la costera del coral has been lying on the seabed south of Alghero at a depth of 17 meters for 25 years.

Six feet tall and weighing three quintals, it was donated to the depths by the Alghero Nautical Club to commemorate all the people who lost their lives at sea and to protect boaters and fishermen.

Every year the "Sea Devils", as can be seen from the photographs taken by one of the members, Salvatore Serra, offer their help to clean the statue armed with brushes and good will . This year, some divers with disabilities also took part in the cleaning operations, aided by a group of freedivers.

The initiative is promoted by the Alghero Nautical Club in collaboration with the Alghero Consortium and the Diavoli di Mare sub Alghero and the participation of the Porto Conte Diving Center. At the end of the operations the Sant Crist was decorated with wreaths of flowers.
