The skeleton of a man was found inside an abandoned farmhouse in the Maria Pia area of Alghero, right in front of the Tennis Club.

The remains were discovered within the last few hours inside the ruins, where the Carabinieri of the Alghero company, a coroner from the Sassari Local Health Authority, and a forensic medicine technician intervened to carry out initial investigations.

According to initial information, the death does not appear to be related to violent causes. Investigators are now trying to identify the person by cross-referencing the information with missing persons records.

News of the discovery has inevitably brought renewed attention to several unsolved cases. In Alghero, for example, the search for Giovanna Cilla, the teacher who disappeared in 2022 at the age of 68, has continued for years. Upon hearing the news of the discovery of human remains in the old farmhouse, her family immediately contacted the police, but initial findings suggest the skeleton belongs to a man. It remains unclear how long the remains had been in the abandoned building.

The body was found in a humid environment and easily exposed to animals, making it more difficult to make an initial assessment of the timing of death. It is possible that the death may have occurred relatively recently.
