Alghero, "Here's Sfigalbero": the Christmas tree sparks controversy.
The Reformers: "Low, bare, and caged, more like a temporary installation than a Christmas symbol."Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
From "Spelacchio" to "Sfigalbero." The debate over the Christmas tree in Piazza Porta Terra is igniting political and civic conflict in Alghero . The reference is to Rome, when under the administration of Virginia Raggi, the fir tree, a symbol of the holidays, became famous throughout Europe for its unassuming appearance.
Today, some believe the city risks a similar scenario. The tree installed in the heart of the historic center is described by critics as "short, bare, and caged," more like "a temporary installation than a Christmas symbol capable of conveying warmth and atmosphere." Hence the irony surrounding the nickname "Sfigalbero," coined by the Reformers group.
Councilor Enrico Daga, among others, defends the decision. "When a city tries to change, break away from routine, and experiment with new languages, it's normal for not everything to please everyone. But this is a sign that Alghero is alive, that it dares and isn't content to simply repeat what it's already done."
