In Alghero there is an outcry against the hypothesis of a new hospital in Mamuntanas.

«We totally reject the solution of the new hospital ten kilometers from the city center , envisaged by the fake propaganda resolution of the Solinas council , a few days before the vote. We believe that it is necessary to focus first and foremost on the restructuring of the current hospitals, in particular the civil and marine operating rooms which are currently closed, ensuring the reduction of waiting lists, the reopening of the birth centre, the strengthening of medical and paramedical staff and the strengthening of local health".

Democratic Party, Movimento 5 Stelle, Lista x Alghero, Lista Civica Uniti, Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, Futuro Comune, Progressives, Podemos, Fortza Paris and Sardenya i Llibertat, reject without the possibility of appeal the idea of building the health center of Alghero in the countryside .

«Alghero needs a new and modern hospital, but this must be planned seriously, with the involvement of the community, with certain resources and commitments, and in the meantime the existing one must be made to work. The land adjacent to the current civil hospital in the Taulera area, already identified by urban planning instruments as a service area, is the ideal place to locate the future healthcare centre. The current hospital, in perspective, could be converted into a functional polyclinic with administrative offices functional to the public health service", they write in a note, underlining how a location far from the urban center "means further inconvenience both for the direct users of the health care, as well as for family members forced to travel tens of kilometers every day to assist their loved ones".

But beyond the logistical aspect, according to the political groups it is essential to overcome the dualism between the Local Health Authority (ASL) and the University Hospital (AOU) «which limits the full collaboration essential to ensuring better functionality of the service, which is already profoundly deficient due to the chronic shortage of healthcare personnel and specialist equipment combined with a general disorganization of the public healthcare service, to the benefit of clinics and private operators but to the detriment of the weakest social groups".
