Him and his mother-in-law. For a 45-year-old Romanian national, who had lived in Alghero for years, his relationship with his wife's mother was anything but idyllic.

Over time, tensions had escalated into several aggressive episodes, in which alcoholism, a medical condition, and forced cohabitation had played a significant role in disrupting the balance. In one of these, the man locked the elderly woman out of the house, leaving her outside, while in another, for example, at the height of an argument, he threw water from a glass in her face.

But the tense relationship with the in-law was part of a general climate, from 2020 to 2023, of great difficulty in a family that included four minors. Knives brandished, insults, and constant arguments culminated in reports to the Carabinieri, who intervened several times, and the child was forced to leave the home and forbidden to approach family members.

Finally, the trial concluded a few days ago in Sassari. Judge Giancosimo Mura, granting the requests of prosecutor Alessia Sanna and the civil plaintiff, represented by lawyer Barbara Pirisi, sentenced the man to two years. Defense lawyer Francesco Cherchi Minniti announced he will appeal.
