There were over 150 jumps over the fire: 150 bonds of brotherhood and friendship sealed in Alghero by the 2024 edition of the Focs of Sant Joan last weekend. An event conceived and organized by the ProLoco Riviera del Corallo with the contribution and support of the Municipality of Alghero and the Alghero Foundation: three days full of events under the artistic direction of Marco Velli.

«The public responded in an exemplary way and supported every single event with their participation – explains Velli – and the musical events characterized the evenings in a formidable way and the procession with the head of the statue of the Saint and the precious Flama in the Barcelona seafront brought the city to the location of the event where a succession of magical moments allowed the ancient rite to take place."

The 1st Palio dei Focs de Sant Joan, organized by the Naval League, the ASD Il Marinaio and the Petraia Neighborhood Committee, brought Latin sailing to the center of the scene, offering a great competition that involved all the neighborhoods and villages of the city.

Great performance by the castellera "Los Mataresos de l'Alguer" which saw entire families on the beach of San Giovanni as testimony to the values of dedication, trust, strength, respect, fraternity which are also the basis of the fire jump that last night sealed a new bond between Los Mataresos, in their first public outing, and their community.

The show of images, music and words by the artists Corrado Podda, Mowman and Enedina Sanna presented by Nicola Nieddu and Carla Valentino was engaging and full of pathos.

«The Focs de Sant Joan event closed with an extraordinary turnout and an excellent number of candidates for the comparatico – explains Ennio Asuni, president of the ProLoco Riviera del Corallo – The weather affected the scenography and the lineup of the last evening but the critical issues will be the basis for better structuring the next editions. Thanks go to all the people, associations and institutions that allowed the events to run smoothly", concludes Ennio Asuni.
