It is called Photobacterium Damselae subspecies Piscicida and it is the bacterium that is causing the death of fish in the Calich lagoon. The ASL of Sassari, Animal Health Service, reports that the microorganism in question is not due to pollution of the pond and is not transmissible to humans, therefore it is not dangerous for public health .

It affects grey mullets, gilt-head breams and sea bass and usually develops in the summer, when the water temperature exceeds twenty degrees . The fact that it appeared in October, however, is symptomatic of the climate changes underway.
