The ecclesiastical community of Alghero is mourning the death of Don Potito Niolu, the face of the church of San Giuseppe in the La Pietraia neighborhood, who passed away at the age of 91. Born in Villanova Monteleone on October 18, 1933, and ordained a priest on August 24, 1957, Don Potito was well-known for his openness to young people and his generosity toward the needy.

First parish priest of San Giuseppe for 54 years, then an assistant to the same parish, he led the Office for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue in the diocese, and was an advisor to the diocesan Institute for the Support of the Clergy.

"Only God knows the greatness and goodness of your heart. That somewhat gruff individual hid something great that you demonstrated in the daily lives of all who sought you out. You will not be easily forgotten," said Raffaele Masala, a member of the faithful of the Church of San Giuseppe.

Greetings also come from the parish of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in Alghero, which extends its affectionate support to the Church of San Giuseppe. Condolences also come from local authorities, from Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto to City Councilor Michele Pais.
