"I have learned with extreme concern from an internal document of the concrete risk of interruption of the service, starting from mid-May. An unacceptable eventuality, which would hit our territory hard, especially at the beginning of the summer season". The Emergency Room of the Civil Hospital of Alghero is collapsing and the president of the Health Commission, Christian Mulas, has called an urgent meeting for May 5 and, before that, a public meeting in the parking lots of the health facility, on Wednesday, April 30.

"The numbers speak for themselves: the Alghero Emergency Department recorded 23,850 admissions in 2024, which rose to 24,287 over the last 12 months (from April 23, 2024 to April 22, 2025), equal to an average of about 68 patients per day ," Mulas reports. A significant amount of work with a bare-bones staff. "Of the 10 doctors expected, two are pregnant, one is on long-term sick leave, and another will be available from May 2. Only 5 shift doctors remain operational, of which at least two have serious health problems and one is unavailable for night shifts. To guarantee 24-hour service, at least 6 would be needed," explains the president of the commission.

"We will meet on Wednesday morning at the parking lot of the Civil Hospital of Alghero for a public meeting. It will not be a political catwalk, nor an opportunity to point the finger at someone. It will be a moment of unity, responsibility and courage, to defend together our right to health and prevent the closure of the Emergency Room ", Mulas emphasizes.
