Following the controversy over the inconvenience caused by the closure of the tunnel connecting the central body of the Civil Hospital to the Dialysis and Paediatrics departments, the response from the extraordinary commissioner of the Sassari Local Health Authority, Paolo Tauro, has arrived.

"We are facing a major construction project, in full swing, transforming Alghero Hospital to better meet the local healthcare needs. This is a major project, shared with the Regional Health Department, which involves the entire hospital in a process of structural and organizational redevelopment," Tauro explains.

Among the ongoing projects is the relocation of the chapel from the fourth floor to the ground floor, in a space designated in conjunction with the Curia. This is a temporary move, pending completion of the project: an investment of over €3 million to build the new mortuary, chapel, pediatrics ward, lobby, and ophthalmology unit. The new chapel will be located in the northwest section of the hospital, will have multiple entrances, and will be easily accessible, even for those with limited mobility.

"This isn't just a logistical change," Tauro adds, "but a substantial improvement in the provision of spiritual and psychological support in times of greatest vulnerability. We're making this service more humane, visible, and effective." Meanwhile, inevitable changes to internal traffic and the temporary relocation of some facilities will continue to be necessary to complete the work.
