A 59-year-old man fell to his death last night from the cliffs below Balaguer in Alghero, under unknown circumstances, and remained there, unconscious. Someone spotted him this morning and immediately called for help.

The 118 air rescue service, the local police, the men of the Coast Guard and the firefighters were on site.

The man, injured in the head and in a state of confusion, was taken to the emergency room, but his prognosis remains guarded.

The recovery operations were not easy, in an impervious area, below the Balaguer ridge, the hill south of the city.
