From mistreatment of her daughter and ex-partner, to slander, injuries, damage, and even throwing the family's aquatic turtles from the terrace. The list of charges leveled against a 41-year-old Eastern European woman is long. Her trial was heard today in Sassari court, before a panel presided over by Giancosimo Mura, with Monia Adami and Sara Pelicci as co-chairs.
According to the charges, the woman allegedly carried out a series of violent acts in Alghero between 2019 and 2022 .
These included throwing a boiling drink at his daughter, hitting her with a vase and a metal coat hanger, and smearing her bed with pickled food as a form of punishment. In one incident, he even bit the girl's hand, twisting her little finger and causing—according to the prosecution—a permanent injury.
As for her ex-partner, she allegedly threw a cell phone out of the window, slandered him with unfounded accusations, and created a fake Facebook profile in his name, in which the man appeared—according to the indictment—"in intimate and private poses, in order to ridicule him."
Furniture and furnishings were also reportedly damaged by the repeated throwing of vases and plants. Among the more serious charges was animal cruelty: the woman allegedly hit the cat's teeth with a hammer and threw the aquatic turtles from the terrace.
However, during the court hearing, prosecutor Angelo Beccu emphasized the vagueness of the charges and the lack of concrete evidence . For this reason, he requested the defendant's acquittal on all counts.
The plaintiff, represented by attorney Gianni Censori, requested the woman's conviction, while defense counsel Francesco Sasso highlighted numerous inconsistencies in the prosecution's account. He cited, for example, the alleged "permanently damaged little finger," which—as the woman herself admitted—is now fully functional. He also disputed the incident involving the man locked in the garage, stating that the door was actually open and that the woman was merely preventing the man from leaving on his motorcycle.
Finally, he emphasized that the acts against the cat and the turtles were not seen by any witnesses.
The panel adjourned the hearing to October 8 for replies and sentencing.
