The gup of the Court of Sassari, Sergio De Luca, has indicted the head of the Anas compartment maintenance center in the province of Sassari, Stefano Sini, for the death of Alessandro Ortu on 13 May 2018.

The 22-year-old from Porto Torres burned to death inside his car on the outskirts of Sassari , after losing control of the vehicle due to the flooded road and crashing into the pylon of an overpass.

Sini's "fault" "consisted of negligence, imprudence and inexperience", writes the gup, considering Anas herself as civilly liable. According to the judge, the official, defended by the lawyer Raffaele Tuffu, must be judged because " stretch of road affected by an accident caused by a specific danger sign of flooding, which caused the traumatic death of Alessandro Ortu ".

THE ACCIDENT - That afternoon, in the pouring rain, the victim was traveling along the Sassari-Alghero state road towards the capital, to reach his workplace, in a shopping center in the Predda Niedda industrial area . Arriving at the entrance to the city, near the Globo commercial structure, he had lost control of his Seat Arona due to the flooded street.

The car had skidded, first hitting a road sign and then the oblique reinforced concrete base of the overpass . Then it overturned, ignited and stopped just under the overpass. No escape for Ortu.

The young man's family members filed a civil action, represented by lawyers Claudia Carboni, Ivan Cermelli and Stefania Pappani. Anas was represented at the hearing by the GUP by the lawyer Salvatore Salaris. The trial before the single judge Mauro Pusceddu will start on November 4th.
