Carbonia, fire in the Sirai area: homes and Roma camp evacuated

A large fire at the gates of Carbonia.

The flames, which started near Via Dalmazia, near a Roma camp, have reached the Sirai area and are threatening homes in the area.

Numerous ground forces were deployed to the scene – where a tall column of black smoke rose – to contain the blaze.

Also in flight were two light helicopters and a Super Puma, and two Canadairs from Olbia.

As a precaution, some homes in Sirai and the Roma camp were evacuated, while a petrol station and a dairy were secured by firefighters.
