The privatization of Elmas airport and its merger with other Sardinian airports could "concentrate power over air transport on the entire island in the hands of a private entity, chosen by strong economic groups and interests and without a public tender" .

The CGIL ( Italian General Confederation of Labour) is raising the alarm, calling on President Todde and the Regional Council to issue a "signal of caution" regarding the governance of Sardinian airports. This is a proposal the Region "should oppose and distance itself from."

Furthermore: "It's disconcerting," thundered the union's regional secretary, Fausto Durante , "that it's still being discussed despite the negative opinion of authoritative bodies such as the Court of Auditors and the National Anti-Corruption Authority ."

According to the CGIL, there would be no benefit for Sardinia from the Region's participation in the future company with a "totally residual" share of 30 million . Indeed, it would only mean "endorsing the transfer of decision-making power to private entities seeking profit and certainly not having the general and collective interest among their objectives."

All strategic decisions should be in the hands of the public , the union representative emphasizes: "The power to convene a shareholders' meeting alone does not allow the Region to play its role of coordinating and directing the public dimension on a fundamental issue such as air transport and the Sardinian airport system."

The CGIL then also launches a swipe at the healthcare front , commenting on the Constitutional Court's rejection of the law placing the local health authorities under special administration: "The Sardinian healthcare system, already grappling with a dramatic crisis, now risks a new phase of uncertainty and instability that would have been avoided by listening to and taking into greater consideration the concerns and opinions of those, like the CGIL, who had highlighted the risks of that legislative intervention . It is essential that the scenario is not repeated on the airport issue."
