Route by route. Flight by flight. To understand how airfares will change with the entry into force of the new Airline Continuity, which takes effect on March 29th. This is the focus published today on the pages of Unione Sarda .
The routes from Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero to Rome and Milan have been scrutinized. Aeroitalia has been awarded five routes in total. Only the route from the Riviera del Corallo to Linate remains excluded from the new scheme, a tender to which no operator responded. ITA Airways will extend the service until October, with the fares from the old tender.
To give a concrete example, from Cagliari to Fiumicino , residents pay €63.30. In a month, that will drop to €49.45. The same amount applies to similar categories: disabled people, young people up to 21, university students up to 27, people over 70, amateur competitive athletes, and members of associations based on the island. However, the fare for non-Sardinian workers is not included in this group, even though the tender requires it: for them, the ticket will not cost €49.45, but €59.35, as will emigrants up to the third degree of kinship or guardians of those who live here (this discount will debut in a month, but until yesterday it was not listed on the company's website).
In the background, the clash over Ryanair , after the airline issued an ultimatum yesterday: either the Region covers the municipal surcharge on boarding fees with its own resources, or the Irish low-cost airline will not make any new investments . This includes the opening of a new base in the north of the island with four aircraft and 900 new jobs guaranteed. A $400 million gamble, as stated in the statement released by the company yesterday . The majority did not react: "The discussion is open, no decision has been made." The opposition, however, began to press: "Sardinia cannot miss an opportunity like this."
