Three weeks in a medically induced coma, a daily battle against an aggressive bacterial infection, a clinical picture that left little hope upon arrival at the hospital. Yet Antonio Murgia , who turned 50 in the intensive care unit at Brotzu Hospital, is still with us. Smart, tenacious, sustained by a will to live that leaves even the doctors incredulous.
For him—a life spent between his passion for carpentry and his new job as a warehouse worker, with an unwavering love for mountain biking and motorcycles—the ordeal began on September 27th, returning from a motorcycle rally between Barumini and Las Plassas. The exact circumstances of the accident are still being investigated by law enforcement. The trauma was severe: he lost his right lower limb upon impact and was left struggling for his life.
“But I don’t want to look back,” he says now, adding that “my only goal is to get back on my feet, heal, and get back to my life, my sport, my passions, and my friends.”
A goal supported by the help of lifelong friends, who launched a GoFoundMe fundraiser to cover the most urgent expenses: €15,600 was raised in just a few days.
